“Grief is the price we pay for love.”

-Queen Elizabeth II

What do you say to someone who is grieving the loss of a loved one? Sometimes its better not to use words at all.

To grieve is so incredibly natural, and is not unique to humans. Dogs grieve, elephants grieve, even colonies of ants are known to grieve the death of their queen. Although we can grieve together, the nature of the grief is directly related to the nature of the relationship with the lost, and can never be truly known by another.

This small 4×6″ gouache painting was crafted by way of meditation on life, love and loss.
